A wide range of texts are studied at KS3 to ensure students are provided with a broad and challenging English curriculum. Prose, plays and poetry are all studied across this Key Stage with texts including pre 1900 works such as Sherlock Holmes and Shakespeare in addition to more modern material. Students complete formal assessments per Scheme of Work.

GCSE English involves the study of Literature and Language and students are entered for two separate GCSE’S. Preparation for the Language GCSE includes reading media materials, and writing in a variety of forms for different purposes and audiences. Controlled Assessment and a final examination make up GCSE English Language. Controlled Assessment counts for 40% of the final GCSE English Language grade.
GCSE Literature involves the study of a wide range of texts; there is one piece of Controlled Assessment which consists of 25% of the final grade and two final examinations in the summer. Pupils are set in light of Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 outcomes.
