Head’s Welcome
At Townsend Church of England School, we are committed to delivering the best possible education for our students. We deliver high-quality teaching and learning and pastoral care, utilising the latest technology, to create compassionate young adults who will go on to make a significant difference to their local community and the wider world.
Families of all faiths and of no faith are welcome at Townsend. Our Bible-based vision of ‘Love Your Neighbour’, from the parable of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37) underpins everything we do in forming our inclusive and caring ethos.
We provide a safe and calm learning environment where every person matters, where no child is left behind and where every child has the opportunity to succeed. We are committed to ensuring that the learner is at the heart of everything we do. All students are encouraged to have high aspirations and to follow an ambitious school curriculum.
Students at Townsend are wonderful ambassadors for our school – hard working, enthusiastic, fun to be with and genuinely impressive young people. We have high expectations of them all and we aim to develop confident, resilient and independent learners who enjoy their time at school. We want them to thrive within our school community.
We were delighted to be inspected by Ofsted and SIAMS in January and May 2024, respectively. Please read our full reports, which are on our website. Ofsted reported that ‘all are made to feel safe, welcomed, and valued’, and ‘classrooms are positive places in which to teach and learn.’ SIAMS reported that ‘students grow during their time in school into reflective and compassionate young adults. This is a result of the school vision’s focus on the importance of respectful relationships.’
I am privileged to lead a dedicated team of teachers and support staff who value the many and varied achievements of all students, including academic and wider successes. We recognise that everyone learns differently and that making mistakes and taking risks are both integral parts of the learning experience.
I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher at Townsend Church of England School.
Townsend is on a fabulous journey, embracing changes that will enhance the educational experience and enable all to flourish. Our inspections of 2024 provide validation that we are on the right path, an excellent school aspiring to be the first choice secondary school for all.
