Discovery Centre / Library
The Discovery Centre is a central hub of learning and relaxation for all students at Townsend to enjoy. It is staffed by our dedicated Discovery Centre Managers so that students and teachers have access to the space and library all day, every day.
It houses our Library with a huge range of fiction and non-fiction books that students can borrow and use during the school day. It is stocked with popular, classic and alternative fiction books and it is regularly added to with new and appropriate titles for all ages and genres. The books are arranged in genres so students can easily find books they enjoy. Students can visit the library every breaktime and lunchtime, and are welcome to relax at these times and enjoy reading for pleasure.
The Centre also hosts 2 cabinets of Google Chromebooks and wifi throughout, which can be utilised in lesson time and in homework club. Students can use the space for private study when they have available time. There is also a white screen, projector and sound system. Teachers can book the space for lessons so students can use mixed media in lessons and also the open and versatile space lends itself well to group activities and events.
The space is used for a whole range of reasons, from student free time, lesson time, speakers who visit from outside school, school events, clubs, homework club, parent information events and much, much more.
