Fundraising for Townsend School Chapel
It has long been the ambition for Townsend to have a school chapel and we are thrilled to announce that this vision is coming to fruition. The chapel is set to be completed by the end of this year, with an official opening in 2025 to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of our school being at the High Oaks site.
We have identified a suitable space by the library/Discovery Centre, which is no longer needed as a computer suite. The change has been possible due to our implementation of the latest teaching and learning technology, in rolling out the use of iPads for staff and students during the course of this academic year.
The chapel will be a beautiful space, adorned with light wooden furniture, and will be accessible to all for reflection and worship. The chapel project has been generously kick-started by contributions from various churches, the Diocese of St Albans, as well as investment from the school itself.
In memory of Mr Andrew Wellbeloved
We are launching a fundraising campaign in memory of our beloved late Head, Mr Wellbeloved, to complete the chapel project. Donations are sought from individuals, groups, and churches for seating for the chapel – both chairs and pews. All those who donate will have the option to have their names included in a book of benefactors for the chapel.
As Fr. Calum Zuckert, our Chaplain, eloquently stated:
‘Our faith, and its values, are at the heart of our school community. This new chapel will make clear the school’s commitment to nurturing faith in our young people, by giving them – and our staff – a sacred place for prayer, stillness, and reflection. It will be a space for the whole community to benefit from, and a valuable resource in a busy and noisy world, offering sanctuary and peace.’
Mr. Anthony Flack, our Headteacher, also shared:
‘Townsend Church of England School is on a fabulous journey at the moment as we look to provide the very best education and individual outcomes for all students in a caring, inclusive and compassionate community, where all adults and children are given the opportunity to flourish. Following successful inspections from Ofsted and SIAMS during the last academic year, we are looking to progress in a number of areas and to have a dedicated worship space for our community, in memory of my predecessor, Mr Wellbeloved, who gave almost 30 years, would be a significant step forward for the school. ’
