Eco-Council
Townsend C of E school is proud to be a member of the nation-wide Eco-Schools initiative. We have a very active committee with over 35 pupils spanning from Y7 to Y13.
All group decisions are student-led, resulting in an enthusiastic membership that engage actively with the rest of the school body and we are the proud owners of the coveted Green Flag which recognises our amazing work in making our school more environmentally friendly and raising eco-awareness in fellow pupils.
Pupils on our Eco-Committee collaborate with members of our school teaching and support staff to conduct periodic environmental reviews to assess how eco-friendly our school is. Building on those findings, a yearly action plan is designed to advance the school’s green credentials, improve the local environment and protect our planet. The Eco-Committee currently focus on three Eco-Schools topics: Biodiversity, Litter and School grounds.
Through the work of the ECO committee pupils have become more empowered, confident and they have developed their leadership skills. The school’s environment has improved and financial savings have been made due to the environmental awareness that resonates across the school.
