Recent trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau

March 14, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

The below extract is written by Tiffany, one of our Deputy Head Students reflecting on her experience visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp in Poland with my year group was truly an eye-opening experience that left a lasting impact on me. I had learned about the facts and history in the classroom, but standing in those somber grounds and walking through the camp, I was confronted with the devastating reality of what had happened there. The magnitude of the loss, the brutality, and the human suffering was something I could never fully comprehend until I was there. It was impossible to ignore the immense suffering and loss that took place, and the emotional weight of it was overwhelming. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to experience such a life-changing moment and I feel more connected to the importance of remembering and learning from the past. I want to express my thanks to the teachers who accompanied us during the trip, as well as Holocaust Awareness who made it possible for us to learn about this important part of history in such a profound way. It was an experience that has forever changed my perspective, and I’ll carry its lessons with me always.
