Sixth Form Students Take on New York City!
Over four unforgettable days, our Sixth Form students swapped classrooms for city skyscrapers as they embarked on an action‑packed adventure to New York City—the city that never sleeps, and apparently, neither do excited British teenagers.
Braving –16°C temperatures, the group showed true resilience (and excellent layering skills) as they explored some of the most iconic sights in the world. The trip provided not only incredible memories but also a valuable cultural experience that students will carry with them for years to come.
Highlights of the Trip:
🗽 Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
The group began with one of New York’s most famous landmarks, sailing across the icy Hudson River to visit Lady Liberty herself. Stunning views of the skyline and a powerful insight into America’s immigrant history set the tone for the trip.
🏙 Top of the Rock & Empire State Building
Students had the chance to see New York from above—twice! From the Top of the Rock, they enjoyed sweeping views of Central Park and the Empire State Building at Sunset, and later experienced the magic of the city at the Empire State’s observation deck. Even in sub-zero temperatures, the views were more than worth it.
🕊 9/11 Memorial & Museum
A more reflective moment came with a visit to the 9/11 Memorial, where students paid their respects at the twin reflecting pools honouring those lost and learning about the tragedy in the museum. Many found the experience deeply moving and educational.
🛍 Macy’s & Times Square
No New York visit is complete without a bit of shopping and neon lights. Students explored the legendary Macy’s department store before heading to the bright, bustling heart of Manhattan—Times Square—which was as loud, colourful, and unforgettable as expected.
🎭 Broadway: & Juliet
A major highlight was an evening at a Broadway theatre to watch & Juliet, a modern, musical reimagining full of energy, humour, and chart‑topping pop hits. Students loved every minute.
🌉 Brooklyn Bridge, DUMBO & Wall Street
The group crossed the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, taking in spectacular skyline views after exploring DUMBO, known for its famous photo spots and cobblestone charm. A stop on Wall Street added a dash of financial district drama.
🌳 Central Park
Despite the icy temperatures, the group enjoyed wandering through the snow‑capped beauty of Central Park, a peaceful pause amid the city buzz.
A Trip to Remember
From soaring skyscrapers to Broadway beats, reflective moments to frozen fingers, our Sixth Form students made the absolute most of their New York City adventure. Their enthusiasm, maturity, and great humour (even in –16°C!) made the trip a tremendous success.
We’re incredibly proud of the way they represented our school—and we can’t wait to take more students to this iconic city next year!
