Course Description
This qualification is designed for students aged 16-19 years old and develops knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to mental health and wellbeing within the broader health and social care sector. It prepares students for progression to undergraduate study when taken alongside other qualifications.
Programme of Study
Students will study key topics important for individual mental health and wellbeing, including:
- Introducing mental health and wellbeing
- The brain and body
- Factors influencing mental health and wellbeing
- Models of mental health
- Mental health issues and disorders
- Strategies for managing mental health and wellbeing
Through a combination of theoretical study and hands-on experience, students develop the necessary knowledge and skills that support progression to higher education mental health and wellbeing study.
Assessment
Students must complete five units:
- Two mandatory externally assessed units (F400 and F401)
- Two mandatory NEA units (F402 and F403)
- One optional NEA unit (either F404 or F405)
Examinations
- Unit F400: 1 hour 45-minute written exam (70 marks)
- Unit F401: 1 hour 15-minute written exam (50 marks)
NEA (Non-Examined Assessment) Units
Assignments are live for two years, and each assignment takes 10-15 GLH (Guided Learning Hours) to complete
The qualification uses a compensatory approach, meaning the unit grade is based on the total number of achieved criteria from any combination of pass, merit or distinction criteria.
