Abbey Service – 9th May 2024

April 26, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We will be attending St Albans Cathedral for an Ascension Service on Thursday 9th May at 2pm.

Parents/carers are welcome to attend. Please let the office know you would like to reserve a seat via admin@ townsend.herts.sch.uk

All students will be attending, walking from school to the cathedral accompanied by staff.

Students will be going home straight from the cathedral. There will be no Barnetts or Motts buses that afternoon. Please ensure your child knows how they are going home.

There will, though, be transport for students, who need to be collected from school. If your child requires being brought back to school, please contact admin@townsend.herts.sch.uk by Friday 3rd May to arrange a space. We cannot guarantee a space if notified after this date.

For this service, we will be collecting donations for St Albans Action for Homeless, a local charity recently chosen by our new Head Student team to support over a year-long partnership. Students will be learning more about this charity next week in Collective Worship assemblies. Donations can be made either in form time on 7th/8th May, on School Gateway, or during the service itself.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Kindest regards,

Mrs Line
Deputy Headteacher

OCCA Visit

April 26, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Today we had the pleasure of receiving a visit from OCCA (The Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics).

Our Year 12 students spent a couple hours with OCCA along with some other students from local schools. The event ran for a couple of hours consisting of Q+A style sessions and team building exercises where sixth form students were able to ask questions about the Christian faith.

Here are some of the questions the sixth formers came up with for our hosts:

How do you believe that science and religion can work in unison?

Who created God?

How in a world of science and technology, how do we know what the truth is?

What is the evidence for God?

Alanzo and Tom from OCCA shared their stories and answered some questions along with the help of our friends from Step.

Townsend’s Family Fun Run!

April 26, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place in May.

The theme this year is “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”. To kick start the week we are organising a big family fun run and would like as many people in our school community to take part as possible.

The event will take place on Saturday 11th May at 2pm and we invite all students and their parents/carers, siblings and extended family to take part. Entry is £2 per person and all money raised will be going to one of our school charities: Youth Talk. This is a fantastic local charity that supports many of our students, if you would like to donate, please click on the link: https://www.justgiving.com/page/townsend-school-1711022110282?utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=page%2Ftownsend-school-1711022110282&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=pfp-share

The fun run is a 2k course and will not be timed, it’s a fun community event where people can choose to run, walk or jog.

The run will start on the school field behind the Discovery Centre and the route is all on grass.

Our school PTA will be selling refreshments afterwards.

If you would like to take part then please complete the Google form and then send payment via School Gateway.

Introductions from our Head Students!

April 19, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Hi parents and carers of Townsend!

As the new student leaders we would love to introduce ourselves personally. After a complex application process we are pleased to announce that Amelia and Louie are our head students with Tiffany and Shaun as our deputies.

Our first official week has been a great success. We have had engaging meetings discussing our plans for this summer term. Next week we aim to support the year 11s before their stressful upcoming exams. We will be holding a Q&A where we will answer any questions that may be on their minds.

We are also looking forward to meeting with Mrs Line to organize our upcoming Abbey service.

Lastly, we invite everyone to join us for the family fun run on Saturday the 11th of May and 2pm.

See you soon!
