February 6, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Year 10 Work Experience – Placement opportunity

AECOM, who are based in St Albans, are running a structured work experience during the week of 12 May 2025. The activities detailed are:

The student will get experience within all 3 of their main divisions, Buildings, Environment/Water & Transportation – this will be project based and enable the student to better understand the company and how the different departments interact. A specially adapted induction to the company will be given on the first day.

Under supervision by a qualified/experienced member of staff and following assessment and training activities may include:

  • Health and Safety Talk
  • Site visit – (on provision that parental and/or school approval has been given) but will be supervised at all times
  • Various project design tasks – problem solving/using analysis package where relevant
  • AutoCAD, Dialux and Revit will be taught
  • Bridge building challenge – Team work
  • An insight into marketing & communications activities
  • Graduate presentations – Their work experience so far and details of projects different divisions get involved with

Students should have a keen interest in Engineering and be studying Maths.

Placements are open to any school undertaking work experience that week and are taken up very quickly. If your son or daughter is interested in arranging this as a private placement, they should contact Patsy Coote directly (patsy.coote@aecom.com) for an application form and complete a work experience private placement form available from Mrs Davey.

Families First Information

January 30, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Please see the below information about Families First.

‘Families First is the term used in Hertfordshire for services that work together to support families who need extra help. These are also known as early help services.

We all experience difficulties at some point. Families First can help you find early help and information to prevent issues from getting worse.

If you need more help than your usual support network – for example your health visitor, school, doctor or family centre – we can work with you and your family to create a package of support.

Who is it for?

Families First is available to all Hertfordshire families with children under 18 (25 if they have a learning need or disability).

Issues we can help with:

  • parenting
  • mental and physical health problems
  • drug or alcohol dependency
  • domestic abuse
  • school related concerns – such as your child is not attending school
  • debt problems
  • risk of becoming homeless.’

Year 10 Work Experience

January 27, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Year 10 students have now all been given their PIN and a student ‘Quick Guide’ to enable them to access the work experience website hcc.learnaboutwork.net to start choosing their work experience placements.

A reminder that Year 10 students should be choosing 3 placements and rank ordering them from 1-3 in order of preference. Students cannot be guaranteed their first choice, so all 3 of their work experience placement choices need to be ones which they can get to and would be happy doing for the week. If your son or daughter has organised a private placement by completing the appropriate form and returning it to school, they will not need to choose a placement from the website.

All private placement forms should be returned to school no later than February half term. It is expected that all Year 10 students will be on a work experience placement during the week of 12th-16th May 2025.
