Townsend has a strict uniform policy and dress code. Details of our uniform are given below. Acceptance of a place at Townsend is taken to imply acceptance of our uniform and dress code.
The School Uniform Suppliers are: Stevensons 131 – 135 Victoria Street, St. Albans, Hertfordshire. If you buy any items at another shop please check that you have exactly the same design and colour.
- All clothing and equipment must be clearly and indelibly marked with the owners full name.
- No jewellery is allowed except one pair of plain stud earrings, only one plain stud per ear (nose studs and other body jewellery are not allowed) and a plain (inexpensive) wrist watch.
- Markings or symbols which have been cut into the hair or eyebrows are not allowed. Shaved heads are not allowed and nor are hair cuts where it is deemed by the Headteacher or Deputy Headteachers that the hair cut undermines the ethos or discipline of the school.
Girls Uniform
Blazer | Purple, with badge from suppliers – compulsory for all pupils Years 7 – 10, to be worn to and from school daily. Year 11 Black standard School style, not fashion style. From named suppliers only. Please ask us before buying! |
Tie | School design from suppliers worn with trousers or with skirts when blouse is buttoned to neck. |
Jumper (Optional) | V-necked, grey with school trim, from suppliers. |
Skirt | Grey, sensible style and length, (can be obtained from suppliers). T shirt style/tube skirts are not permitted. (If you are unsure as to an acceptable style, please ask us before purchase) |
Blouse | White, buttoning at neck with tie (compulsory if trousers are worn) or 2-way collar, without tie and worn with a skirt. |
Socks | White ankle/knee socks or plain grey/black ankle socks with trousers. Black or beige tights may be worn with a skirt. |
Shoes | Plain black shoes sensible style with heels of not more than 3.5cm. Training shoes/black plimsolls and boots are not permitted. |
Trousers | Dark charcoal grey or black, plain design with a straight leg cut. Denim style trousers/trousers that resemble black/grey jeans are not permitted, neither are black leggings or trousers that resemble leggings.(If you are unsure as to an acceptable style, please ask us before purchase) |
Coat | Plain black or navy blue colour without excessive coloured trim or motif. Suede, leather, light coloured coats, denim jackets or fleeces or hooded tops NOT allowed. |
Scarf (optional) | School design from suppliers, or plain black or navy blue colour. |
Cyclists only: | A reflective band or jacket and a cycle helmet. |
Apron (Food Technology) | PVC fire retardant – available from school. |
School Bag/rucksack | Suitable for carrying equipment and/or books no carrier bags permitted. Please ensure a bag (black/navy) of good design to protect pupils from back injury and big enough to hold an A4 size book/folder. Fashion hand bags are not suitable for school. A plastic bag should be kept for carrying wet or damp clothing in the main bag. |
