Townsend’s 50th Anniversary

June 27, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary of being at our High Oaks Site.

In May 1975, the official opening of Townsend Church of England School took place, combining the separate school for girls and school for boys, which both originally opened in 1933. We are organising a number of exciting activities in school this term to celebrate and mark this key milestone in our history.

As part of this celebration, we would like to collect as many old-school photographs as we can to create a timeline of Townsend over the last 50 years. We are particularly looking for whole-school, year group and form group photographs from all previous years, but in particular the first few following the opening in 1974/75.

We are happy to take copies of these pictures so that you retain the originals, as I am sure they are of sentimental value to you. If you are in contact with any former students or staff who may have these pictures, I would appreciate it if you could share this request with them. We will also be sharing on our social media platforms to hopefully reach a wider audience.

If you can help us with this project, we would be very grateful and ask that you contact the school by emailing admin@townsend.herts.sch.uk or call us on: 01727 853047 to make the necessary arrangements.

Thank you!

End of Year Celebration Assemblies – Week Beginning 14th July

June 27, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We are delighted to invite you to our End of Year Celebration Assemblies, where we will recognise the achievements, effort and progress of our pupils over the course of this academic year.

The assemblies will take place as follows:

  • Year 7 – Monday 14th July

  • Year 8 – Tuesday 15th July

  • Year 9 – Wednesday 16th July

  • Year 10 – Thursday 17th July

  • Year 12 – Monday 21st July

All assemblies will begin at 2:15pm and will last for approximately one hour.

You should have already received an email invitation for your child’s assembly. Please note that some invitations may state that your child is not currently due to receive a specific award. However, there is still a chance that they may be recognised for excellent attendance or for high End of Year Conduct points, as these certificates will be finalised closer to the end of term.

If you would like to attend, please complete the Google Form that was sent to you via a separate email, letting us know how many seats you would like to reserve (up to 4 per pupil).

We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the successes of our students together.

Polite notice regarding parking

June 27, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Just a gentle reminder to use the car park in Toulmin Drive to drop off and collect your children at the beginning and end of each day.

We need to be able to keep High Oaks and Sparrowswick Ride free of traffic to allow buses to get through and to enable residents to access their driveways. Cars should not be parked on dropped kerbs. We understand traffic wardens have been on the road this week and have been issuing penalty charge notices for cars parked on dropped kerbs. Many thanks for helping to keep our streets safe and calm.

Due to the hot weather we have been experiencing we have had an increasing number of students reporting to have headaches and feeling hot.

Please ensure your children come into school each day with a water bottle. There are water fountains within school where they will be able to refill it throughout the day.

Year 12 Student Experience

June 18, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Year 12 students found the UCAS Convention in Bedford to be an engaging and inspiring event.

Our students appreciated the opportunity to interact directly with university representatives and employers, which allowed them to ask specific questions about courses, campus life, and career options. The hands-on activities and workshops—such as mock crime scene investigations and interactive demonstrations—were particularly popular, providing a practical insight into different subject areas and careers. Many students left the event feeling more informed and motivated about their future pathways, whilst gaining a large collection of tote bags and pens, with a noticeable sense of excitement and enthusiasm on the journey home.

Below are some testaments from the day from our Year 12 students:

Maziah– I was pleased to find out more about accounting and finance, the talk I attended was very interesting.

Daniella – I think I found out more about my choice of universities and really appreciated the opportunity to talk to a wide range of Universities which enabled me to understand more about the different opportunities presented to me.

Geoffery – The student finance was very informative and gave a great insight into how the cost of university can be managed.

Attending the UCAS Convention empowered Year 12 students to make more confident, informed decisions about their next steps after sixth form. The combination of expert advice, interactive experiences, and personal engagement with universities and employers helped clarify their options and inspired them to take the next steps in their educational and career journeys.

Personal statements are a key part of the UCAS application and Year 12 students have started to write theirs and complete their UCAS application.

Please can parents/carers support students in ensuring their personal statement is of the highest quality.

For those wishing to apply to University, please see the below UCAS Deadlines:

Equal Consideration UCAS Application deadline – 14th January 2026
