On 16^th October we will be welcoming psychologist Dr Martijn van der Spoel (from https://www.glialearning.com/) into school to lead study skills sessions with Year 11 during the school day.

He will also be leading a session specifically for Year 11 parent/carers 6-7pm in the school hall. Mr King and Mrs Line will also be presenting information that will support your child in their preparation for their GCSE year. He gave an exceptional presentation to Year 13 this week, which was received very well by staff and students. To book seats, please complete this brief booking form.

Carers in Herts are running a session for Parents/Carers on understanding self-harm in children and young people and giving strategies and practical help to support your child.  

This week saw a variety of fixtures taking place including County Cup football, District Basketball and District Table Tennis.

U14 County Cup Football:

Townsend started the game well against a strong St Michaels team in the County Cup last week. Lamech was able to score a goal midway through the first half, however, this was cancelled out by a well-worked goal from St Michaels. At half-time the score was 1-1. St Michaels started the second half strongly and managed to score 3 times in the first 15 minutes, making the game 4-1. Lamech was able to pull a goal back towards the end of the game with a penalty to make it 4-2. This defeat sees us enter the plate competition, so keep your eyes out for who we will face next. Well done to every player who all did themselves and the school proud.

U15 Basketball:

On Tuesday this week, our U15 basketball team kicked off their season with a trip to Sir John Lawes. A very good test for our team, against a strong SJL team, which unfortunately resulted in a 39-25 loss.

U16 Table Tennis

On Wednesday, we took a team to the District Table Tennis tournament. The team played against other schools in singles matches, with two pools of 4 schools. There was a mixture of results, however, all students showed resilience and hard work throughout the tournament, ultimately, finishing third in their pool and only the top team progressed to the final. This was also a great opportunity for our students to help boost their GCSE Practical grades.

Cross-Country:

Thursday saw the final District Cross Country event at Verulam School. Thank you to all students who were involved, it has been fantastic to see so many students representing Townsend at each of these events.

Our students will have the opportunity to learn about inspirational figures of Black heritage. Here are some of the books we have available for our students.
