iPad reminder

October 9, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We are noticing that a lot of students are damaging their iPads by keeping them in the same bag as their water bottle.

Please can students be reminded to refrain from carrying their iPad in the same bag as their water bottles as iPads are becoming damaged by leaks and spills.

Thank you,
IT Team

PE Round Up

October 3, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

This week saw a variety of fixtures taking place including County Cup football, District Basketball and District Table Tennis.

U14 County Cup Football:

Townsend started the game well against a strong St Michaels team in the County Cup last week. Lamech was able to score a goal midway through the first half, however, this was cancelled out by a well-worked goal from St Michaels. At half-time the score was 1-1. St Michaels started the second half strongly and managed to score 3 times in the first 15 minutes, making the game 4-1. Lamech was able to pull a goal back towards the end of the game with a penalty to make it 4-2. This defeat sees us enter the plate competition, so keep your eyes out for who we will face next. Well done to every player who all did themselves and the school proud.

Mr Brooks

U15 Basketball:

On Tuesday this week, our U15 basketball team kicked off their season with a trip to Sir John Lawes. A very good test for our team, against a strong SJL team, which unfortunately resulted in a 39-25 loss.

Mr Hill

U16 Table Tennis

On Wednesday, we took a team to the District Table Tennis tournament. The team played against other schools in singles matches, with two pools of 4 schools. There was a mixture of results, however, all students showed resilience and hard work throughout the tournament, ultimately, finishing third in their pool and only the top team progressed to the final. This was also a great opportunity for our students to help boost their GCSE Practical grades.

Mr Hill

Cross-Country:

Thursday saw the final District Cross Country event at Verulam School. Thank you to all students who were involved, it has been fantastic to see so many students representing Townsend at each of these events.

Upcoming Fixtures:

  • Monday 6th October: Year 8 Football vs St Edmunds (Away)

  • Tuesday 7th October: Year 10 Basketball vs Marlborough (Away)

  • Tuesday 7th October: Year 10 Football v Parmiters (Home)

  • Tuesday 7th October: Year 7 Football Ashlyns (Away)

  • Wednesday 8th October: U13 Table Tennis @ Verulam

  • Wednesday 8th October: Senior Football vs NBS (Away)

  • Wednesday 8th October: Senior Basketball vs SAS (Away)

Lots of exciting games to look forward to, keep your eyes out for consent forms on Edulink

Recent Year 13 Speaker

October 3, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Townsend Sixth Form welcomed Dr Martijn van der Spoel from Glia Learning to talk to Year 13 about the importance of revision and give tips to students about how best they might revise, introducing new strategies and ideas along the way.

The Year 13s finished the session with renewed motivation and inspiration towards their studies, invigorated for the year ahead. Please discuss these strategies with your child at home.

Comments from students:

Amber ‘I learned to not follow my friends revision techniques as everyone learns differently’

Jocelyn ‘ The session has made me do some self reflection on revision technique’

Shammy ‘ It made me realise that I am teacher no 1’

Ruby – ‘ I found the session really inspirational, it was one of the best speakers we have had at the school’
