May 11, 2026/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We are pleased to inform you that we have secured 60 places for Year 7 pupils to attend Herts School’s Farming Day, a practical and hands-on educational event focused on local food production and farming in Hertfordshire.

  • Location: Herts Showground, Redbourn
  • Cost: £7 per pupil

During the day, pupils will take part in a range of small workshops, talks, and presentations led by local farmers. They will also have the opportunity to meet farm animals and learn about the machinery used in modern farming. This promises to be an engaging and educational experience.

Payment and consent must be completed via School Gateway by Friday 22nd May. Please note that places are limited to 60 pupils. A waiting list will be taken on e all places are allocated.

What pupils will need:

Help us raise money for school facilities and be part of a great community event!

May 8, 2026/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

The PTA (Friends of Townsend) is on the lookout for volunteers (parent carers, older students and staff)  to help marshal at the St Albans Half Marathon.

It’s a fun, lively day and a great way to support the school.

Any student volunteering who is not accompanied by a parent or carer will need to take a consent form home for permission to be given.

We’re hoping for help from around 8.00am to 1.00pm, likely around the start and finish area.

If you’re able to lend a hand, please email Caroline Potts at:

CPOTT221@townsend.herts.sch.uk

Thank you so much for your support

Year 7 Work Shadowing

May 7, 2026/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We would like to offer all students in Year 7 the opportunity to do Work Shadowing for a day in July.

We believe that this is of immense value in gaining further insight into the world of work. Please consider whether it would be appropriate for your child to join you at work for the day, or whether you have a relative or friend who could offer a placement.

We ask that you make the necessary arrangements and then complete the form in this link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/Ewz93mcyp1

Please complete form by Monday 15th June.

It is vital that the student will not be involved in any actual work activities, but will have a purely observational role, and will therefore be covered by the employer’s public liability insurance.

Mental Health Awareness Week – 11th – 17th May

May 6, 2026/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

During this week there will be a variety of activities for students to participate in to raise awareness of mental health.

Head students will be selling green pin badges to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation, they are £1 and students can pay by card or by cash.

We are also supporting the ‘Wear it Green’ Day on Friday, where students can wear an item of green clothing in addition to their normal school uniform. Any donations can be made via School gateway.

The school Chapel will be open all week during break and lunch as a safe and calm space for students to visit during break and lunchtime throughout the week. Sixth Form students will be present as someone to talk to.

Students are welcome to:

  • Take some quiet time to reflect
  • Sit peacefully and have a break from the school day
  • Speak to sixth form students for any advice or guidance

The Prayer Tree will also be in the chapel. Students can:

  • Write a prayer, thought, or message on a paper leaf
  • Place it on the Prayer Tree as a way of sharing hopes, worries, or encouragement

The library will be introducing and reading the Carnegie award book called Popcorn (about dealing with anxiety and panic attacks) in Year 7 and 8 library lessons which is available to all students via the Sora app on their iPad.

The timetable of activities is outlined below:
