Year 12- Why politics matter

May 16, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Townsend Sixth Form, once again welcomed former BBC politics journalist and Westminster commentator Keith MacDougall to talk to Year 12 about why politics matter.

The informative talk impartially discussed and educated students on the current political landscape in the UK and how the political system in the UK works. The floor was opened up to what laws would students bring in, if they were in power, and allowed opportunity to discuss and debate in a similar manner of that in Parliament. An excellent talk which broadened students perception of politicians and politics as they become voters themselves very soon.

All Year 12 students have also been given the opportunity to take part in a trip to the House of Commons, led by Mr Bremner, there are a few spaces available so if anyone is interested, they can make themselves known to Mr Bremner.

Supporting Your Child’s Revision at Home with the CRAM Model

May 15, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

As we approach GCSEs, A-Levels, and end-of-year assessments, effective revision is key to student success.

At Townsend, we are encouraging all students to use the CRAM model—a simple yet powerful approach to revision that helps with long-term retention and exam confidence.

Parents/carers can support their child by encouraging active recall, quizzing them on key topics, and helping them create a structured revision timetable. Together, we can ensure that students feel confident and prepared for their assessments.

For more tips on how to support your child’s learning, please visit Supporting learning at home | Parentkind.

Finish This… Composition results!

May 9, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

At Townsend we are proud to announce that Henry in Year 7 has won the ‘Finish This’ competition.

This has allowed him to have his written music animated by the English National Opera! Henry worked with renowned Soprano Rachel Nicholls to compose and record an operatic piece of music for the competition. Henry’s work was chosen out of 200 entries nationally to be animated and posted on the ENO’s website. Well done Henry!

Please see below to view and listen to his wonderful work!
