Hollie Guard App

December 14, 2023/in General News/by Steve Telford

This week all students in years 7-11 have been spoken to by the school’s PSCO, PSCO Russo.

He has spoken about personal safety when travelling to and from school as well as when out alone. He has also spoken about hate crime and protected characteristics. This follows a piece of work that students have completed in their form groups over the past 2 weeks within their form times.

The topics that students looked into were about extremism, sexism and homophobia, where we are encouraging pupils to call out and report any nasty comments and language when they hear it.

This also supports the work that has been done in their PSHE lessons and form times across the whole year.  At Townsend we want pupils to uphold our Respect for All values and be for students to be kind to one another.

PSCO Russo will be spending more time in school in the New Year and students can ask to speak to him if they wish to do so.

PCSO Russo also recommended an app to pupils called Hollie Guard. It allows pupils to put an emergency contact in their phone (for example: parent/carer). If students are ever in trouble when they are out and about, they can hit a button on the app and it will alert their emergency contact. The app can also be used as an alarm as well.

Pupils under the age of 16 need parental consent to sign up to the app.
