On Monday, the RAF came into school to visit our year 7 classes. Our students had a chance to explore new skills in the RAF workshops.

The activities that took place were:

Coding – Students used coding skills to programme a Sphero rolling robot to traverse an airport. Working in small groups, students planned their routes and used speed, distance and time calculations, as well as bearings and angles, to accurately steer the Sphero device through their course.

Humanitarian Aid Drone Workshop – Students used Ordnance Survey Maps to plan a helicopter flight route between several waypoints to allow for the shortest distance or time when flown by a drone.

The students had a great day!

Then you are invited to take part in our Christmas card design competition!

Your design should be no bigger than A5 and should reference Townsend School on the front. Get researching to see what is out there and create your own original design.

All entries our to be handed to Miss Bailey for Mr Flack to judge.

Well done to 7 York for winning the Science spelling bee competition.

Well done to 7 Canterbury for coming second in the competition.

Years 8-10 will take part in a similar competition soon within the New Year, so look out for when your year group will take part!

Students from the winning form will get a home reward card and earn house points for their form group. Good Luck everyone!
