A Term of Fun, New Friendships, and Fundraising!

December 19, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We’ve had a wonderful start to the year, with several memorable events that have brought our school community closer together, and we’re excited to share the highlights with you.

First, we kicked off the term with our Year 7 Welcome Picnic, now in its second year. Despite some heavy rain, the event was a huge success, with families braving the weather to join in the fun. It was heart-warming to see so many students and parents enjoying food, games, and great conversations, setting a friendly and welcoming tone for the new school year.

Following that, we hosted our second annual Christmas Wreath Night, another delightful event filled with festive cheer. Guests enjoyed mulled wine, nibbles and lively conversation while creating beautiful wreaths with fresh foliage, Christmas baubles, cinnamon sticks and more. It was a relaxed evening that allowed students, parents, and staff to get creative and take home something special for the holidays.

To wrap up the term, we held our much-anticipated Christmas Shop for students. As always, it was a hit, giving students the chance to pick out gifts for friends, family and themselves.

We’re incredibly grateful for your continued support of these events. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to raise vital funds for various school departments, including the Sixth Form and the PE Department, which have already received funding this term. This would not be possible without your involvement, and we truly appreciate your generosity.

Looking ahead, we’d love to hear your thoughts on future events. As some of you may know, we had to cancel last year’s Summer Ball and Comedy Night due to low ticket sales. We want to plan events that everyone will enjoy, so please share your ideas with us! Whether you have suggestions for adult or student events, we’d love to hear from you. Simply email your ideas to PTA@townsend.herts.sch.uk

Thank you once again for your ongoing support and for making our school community such a vibrant and welcoming place. We look forward to seeing you at future events.

Warm regards and have a wonderful Christmas.

Celebrating Sixth Form Success

December 19, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

It was a pleasure to celebrate the achievements of our Sixth Form students in the recent Celebrating Success assemblies.

The wide range of students receiving certificates for their dedication, commitment and progress this term, as nominated by their teachers, is a real testament to the excellent transition Year 12 have made into Sixth Form and the continued efforts of Year 13 to build on their progress throughout the year.

We were also delighted to welcome back two former students to present the certificates. Mason, who is now studying Politics with Law at the University of Liverpool, is a staunch supporter of the school and regularly returns to speak with our Sixth Form students. Aaron, currently in his second year of an apprenticeship with leading firm MBDA, has also visited on numerous occasions to speak with our Business and Economics students, showing a genuine commitment to supporting those who are following in the same footsteps he once did. We are extremely grateful to both Mason and Aaron for their ongoing support.

On behalf of the whole Sixth Form team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a restful break.

Year 10- Big Conversation Workshop

December 19, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Hertfordshire Youth Commission’s, Tammie Takon, visited Year 10 in the afternoons of the 5th and 12th December to lead two one-hour Big Conversation workshops on Hate Crime and County Lines and Exploitation.

The Youth Commission on Police and Crime provides a platform for young people to influence the future of policing and crime prevention in their local area.

During these workshops, students were able to explore the differences between hate crimes, hate incidents, and build awareness of county lines and how to spot the signs. Students were shown how to identify the root causes of hate crime and getting involved in county lines, and were given time to discuss ideas to combat prejudice and understand the impact social media has on these topics.

Year 10 students were provided with support services to report a missing person, ways to file a report directly with Hertfordshire Constabulary and how to support their own mental health via Mind’s website – https://www.mind.org.uk/

Bike competition sponsored by Tony Gee- DEADLINE EXTENDED

December 17, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We are delighted to have been offered sponsorship again from Tony Gee, a civil engineering company with a St Albans office, to support a bike competition.

Last year students were invited to create a 30 second short video and the winner of a new bike was one of our Year 11 students. This year, as last year, the competition is open to Year 7-13 and they have to redesign the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol with sustainable means. All details are on the Design Brief attached. The deadline for entries to be submitted to Showbie is now Monday 5th January!

DT teachers will be able to provide support if students have queries.

Entries will be judged anonymously by Tony Gee and the winner will receive a bike of their choice or a £300 gift card from Go Outdoors.

Sixth Form News

December 12, 2025/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

It’s been another busy and inspiring few weeks in the Sixth Form, with students taking part in a range of activities designed to develop their skills, broaden their horizons, and strengthen our school community. From guest speakers and volunteering inspiration to festive events and leadership activities, our students have truly embodied the Townsend values of service, curiosity, and teamwork.

Volunteer Talk

Students had the pleasure of hearing from Claire Robinson from the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, who delivered an inspiring talk about the many benefits of volunteering. Claire highlighted the positive impact volunteering can have on both communities and individuals — from developing new skills and forming friendships to improving wellbeing and supporting important environmental work. Students also learned about the incredible local opportunities available through the Trust and how they can get involved.

Parliament Talk

We were delighted to welcome Kelly Stroud, Senior Education and Engagement Outreach Officer for the East of England, who spoke with students about the vital role Parliament plays in shaping the country. Kelly explained how laws are made, the importance of democracy, and ways young people can get involved in politics and civic life. It was a fascinating and engaging session that encouraged students to think about how their voices can make a difference.

Over 65s Christmas Party

Our Year 12 students once again hosted the much-loved annual Over 65s Christmas Party, welcoming around 40 guests from the local community. The event was organised and run by Gracie, Luigi, Hannah, Zena, Ronnie, Joshua, Nasri, Gaby and Charlotte, who ensured everyone had a wonderful afternoon filled with festive fun. Guests enjoyed a Christmas quiz, refreshments, and a surprise visit from Townsend Santa! This event continues to be a highlight of the year, bringing generations together in the true spirit of Christmas.

Student Leadership Team Christmas Quiz

To round off the term, the Student Leadership Team organised their inter-year Christmas Quiz and Games Afternoon. The event brought together students from both year groups for some friendly competition, laughter, and teamwork. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of term and strengthen the bonds within our Sixth Form community — well done to the team for their creativity and enthusiasm in hosting such a successful event!

As we approach the end of term, we’re proud of the maturity, initiative, and kindness shown by our Sixth Form students. Whether they were hosting community guests, leading events, or engaging thoughtfully with visitors, they’ve ended the year in fantastic spirit — well done, everyone!
