Beware scam text messages offering cost of living support

November 7, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

Please see the below message from Neighbourhood alert:

Scam SMS text messages have been received by people across the UK in recent weeks, claiming they are eligible for payments from a ‘Housing Support Fund’.

The message directs them to click on a link and pay a fee, then asks for bank details so that payments can be transferred to their account.

Here is an example of one such message:

“Cost of Living Allowance Issue Notice: The uk government is currently beginning to distribute this year is living allowance. Due to the suspension of the heating subsidy by the Parliament this winter, we will pay you this benefit in the form of living expenses allowance. Receiving this subsidy will not affect your other benefits and there is no need to pay any fees. After reading the information, please submit your application before October 23, 2024. We will transfer the 900 euros into 3 tranches into your account before November 1, 2024. ‘BOGUS LINK’ Thank you for your support to the UK Government”.

These types of messages typically contain some tell-tale signs, such as poor grammar, spelling and other errors. Please look out for scam messages and be very sceptical of unsolicited texts, emails and social media messages that ask you to click on links.

Christmas Hamper Raffle

November 6, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

The PTA needs your help – we have a number of empty hampers that need filling with yummy festive goodies ready for our Christmas hamper raffle.

This year we would like to make the raffle even bigger and have a selection of individual prizes as well as hampers. We would be most grateful for your donations of wine, prosecco, chocolates and sweets, crackers etc or anything else you think would be suitable.

If you run a business or work in a company that is happy to donate items to charity events then please do get in touch as the PTA is a registered charity.

Please send items to the school office or contact PTA@townsend.herts.sch.uk to discuss further.

Thank you in advance of your support in helping us to raise funds for your children.

Rewards Trips Announcement

October 25, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

I am pleased to announce that our first Rewards Events of the Academic year have been booked. The Rewards Events will be available for the Top 30% Conduct Point earners in each year Group.

Conduct Points are all of the Achievement Points our pupils earn through their hard work, attitude to learning and contribution to the school community minus any Behaviour Points. Conduct Points counted will be from Wednesday 4th September 2024 to Friday 20th December 2024.

Pupils will be placed on trips as follows;

Gold Event- Top 10% of pupils from each year group

Silver Event- Top 11-20% of pupils from each year group

Bronze Event- Top 21-30% of pupils from each year group

The events will require payment from parents and carers (prices will be confirmed soon!). They are optional, so pupils do not have to go. However, they are aimed at being an enjoyable experience to reward them for their hard work.

The Rewards Event dates are as follows;

Gold Event- KS4- Whipsnade Zoo – Monday 3rd February 2025

KS3- Whipsnade Zoo – Wednesday 5th February 2025

Silver Event- All – Hollywood Bowl, Watford- Wednesday 22nd January 2025

Bronze Event- All- Film and Popcorn, In School- Friday 20th December 2025

October 24, 2024/in General News/by Isabelle Stuckey

We are lucky to have been allocated a Mental Health Support Team worker to be in school one day a week after half term.

She will initially be supporting students through a referral process within school. Going forward she will be leading group work and be involved in wider whole school approaches to mental health. Please see the attached information about Jo Chapman and more general information about this service.

If you would like your child to be considered for a referral to Jo, please contact your child’s Director of Learning. If you do not want your child to be able to access the services Jo is offering, as stated in the letter attached to parents and carers please inform us by sending an email to admin@townsend.herts.sch.uk
