BSL Courses at Heathlands School
Please see the attached posters from the Heathlands School about upcoming BSL Courses for young people.
Over 65 students across Year 7 – 10 have been invited to attend the day. Please can parents/carers of those involved check EduLink / Google Classroom for the link to the Microsoft Form. This has all of the details of the day and access to the consent form that must be completed by Wednesday 11th June. Without the completed consent form, we would not be able to take your child to the event.
This is an exciting day for our students to showcase their talents against other local schools.

The school day remains as normal, but instead of normal lessons p3, 4 and 5 students will have a range of exciting extra-curricular workshops:
Year 7 – Careers workshops linked to aspirations, personal branding and resilience.
Year 8 – will have an hours CPR training and then 2 hours of spirituality and mindfulness activities.
Year 9 – will have workshops developing their oracy skills and learning about structured talk.
Year 10 – will have workshops around careers and have opportunities to hear from and meet various people from different careers as well as learn skills for life linked to careers and interviews.
Year 12 – will have workshops developing their oracy skills and learning about structured talk, they will develop skills for life, such as presentational skills and formal talk.

During this week, students will complete a series of assessments across their core and foundation subjects. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress and understanding of the topics covered this year.
Please support your child by encouraging effective revision, ensuring they attend school punctually, and come fully equipped each day. Further details, including the assessment schedule and topics to revise, will be shared with students in advance.

Meeting Point:
· Location: Berkhamstead Castle, White Hill, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, HP4 1LJ
· Time: 9:00 AM on Friday, 6th June
Itinerary:
· Day 1: Pupils will begin their first day’s walk, navigating their route to Hudnall Park Campsite, Hudnall Lane, Berkhamsted, HP4 1QN, where they will camp overnight.
· Camping: Pupils will perform essential tasks such as setting up tents and preparing their own meals using trangias (portable cooking stoves).
· Day 2: After camping, pupils will continue their expedition, walking to the Dunstable Downs Visitor Centre, Dunstable Road, Whipsnade, LU6 2GY, where they are expected to arrive between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The exact time of arrival may vary depending on their navigation skills and walking speed.
What’s Provided:
· Maps, compasses, tents, trangias (cooking pots and pans), and portable gas stoves will be provided by the school.
What Students Need to Bring:
· A detailed kit list is attached to this letter. Pupils will need to supply all personal equipment not listed as provided. We do have a small number of sleeping mats and rucksacks that can be borrowed on a first come first served basis. If you would like your child to borrow equipment please ask them to come and speak to Mr Armitage as soon as possible.
Training:
· Pupils will receive training sessions every Wednesday at school, leading up to the weekend of the expedition. These sessions will cover essential skills for navigating, camping, and cooking.

These are important exams which allow students to demonstrate the progress they have made in their subjects over the course of the year, in addition to aiding teachers with predicting grades for University and Apprenticeship applications. Please ensure students are aware of the importance of the exams and are spending sufficient time (at least 3-4 hours per evening) out of school, studying and revising for these tests.
